Getaway House

Hi!

At the beginning of the year, Alex and I got to spend a weekend in a Getaway House, an amazing "modern cabin rental" community that has locations near the DC, Boston, and Catskill, NY areas. We went to the one near DC, which is actually close to Shenandoah National Park in Virginia.

Everything about it was so easy, from booking the cabin and getting there (they tell you the exact address one week before you go) to getting texts with info like the code to our cabin and a notice that somebody would be coming by to fill up the water tank. After the trip, the founder even emailed us to ask how everything went!

Our cabin, named Alvin, was PERFECT. We wanted to move in and never leave! We really had everything we needed in that tiny house. It was so cozy (perfect because it was February and still chilly outside) and quiet!

The layouts of the cabins vary (some even have bunkbeds!), and we loved the giant window that ours had at the foot of the bed. That window had a pull down screen and all of the other windows could be covered with canvas curtains that fit on the hooks above the windows. Our locally made Treason Toting Co. bag (red) was a perfect thing to bring on this trip!

There was a small bathroom with a toilet and shower (and shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in pumps attached to the shower wall).

The kitchen had a sink, a stove, a mini fridge, everything we needed to cook with and eat out of, plus some provisions that we could purchase. We brought our own snacks, meals, and coffee, but it was really nice that they had things that we could use if we needed them. They were all great brands of yummy-looking things!

We brought games and books and had so much fun relaxing inside when we weren't exploring outside.

Even though there were several other cabins near us, it was so quiet! As you drive through the cabin area, there are signs telling you which way each cabin is.

We stayed for two nights and on our full day there we drove to Shenandoah National Park to drive and walk around. It was SUPER foggy and it was so fun to drive through it and take pics!

We stopped along the road at most of the pull-off areas to take a ton of pictures and explore.

When we first got to our cabin we saw that they left us a s'mores kit so we had to make that! Soooo yummy. We really didn't want to leave when it was time to check out and we will definitely be going back sometime soon!

Oops! I took a break!

Hi!

I took an unintentional 11ish month break from my blog! Oops!! I'm going to try to write more regularly again. In the past year I have gotten to do so many fun new things!

One of the most exciting things is that I've started acting! From last July to this July I have gotten to be in about eight different TV shows (multiple episodes of some), two web commercials, two movies (one feature film and one documentary-drama), and many other film projects!! Most of my roles have been background actor/extra roles, but I have had some featured and speaking roles, too! I've had so much fun learning about this field, being on all different types of sets, seeing and meeting stars, traveling to many towns, cities, and states, and making a ton of new friends!

When you are cast in a role, you usually have to sign a non-disclosure agreement and you can't talk about the role or the project until it airs. It was hard not to talk about all of the things I've done, especially when I first started doing it! Now that many things have aired, I've been able to talk about it and take screen shots when I can see myself on screen :)

The feature film that I was an extra in is called Imperium, starring Daniel Radcliffe and Toni Collette and directed by Daniel Ragussis. It is being released tomorrow, Friday, August 19th, on limited release and through On Demand! I am so excited to see it! It is not playing many places so far, but Alex found out that it's showing at a theater in Washington DC, so we're going to try to see it there! I've read a lot of really good reviews so far. I'm excited to see if I made it into the movie!

There was a premiere in Hopwell, VA, where the movie was filmed, last night. I wish we had been able to go! It was just a little too far for us to drive there yesterday evening.

Imperium was shot mostly in Hopewell. The day I worked was in October of last year and was one of the last days they were shooting the film. The other actors and the crew were great to work with! I got to meet Daniel, and he is just so nice and friendly! He spoke in an "American" accent throughout filming, so I never heard him speak in his regular accent. He introduced himself to me between shots in a scene I was in with him and we talked just a little bit after that while we finished the scene.

I wish I had pictures from being on set, but on most sets, photography isn't allowed. Some people I know who had bigger roles and filmed more days on set were able to take some pics, which is really cool! There have been a few sets I have been on where we were allowed to take and post pics, and of course I went picture crazy then! I'll share those on here soon!

Here is a link to the Imperium trailer: Click Here

Once we see the movie I'll let you know what we think of it and whether or not I could see myself at all!

I'll write more soon about everything else we've been up to, too!

Family in VA

Hi!

Today I picked Alex up from school and we drove to Alexandria, VA to see my aunt and uncle!  They were in town for his son-in-law's Army promotion.  We met them at their hotel and walked to Theismann's for lunch!  Ginger and I got the French Onion Soup, Marty got Shrimp and Lobster Bisque, and Alex got the Chicken Quesadilla.  My soup was very good and they gave us yummy bread, too.

Then we walked along this cute street with tons and tons of little shops, restaurants, coffee shops, etc.  We looked at pretty beads in the Potomac Bead Company store.  Then we went to this really cool fair trade store called Ten Thousand Villages.  They had jewelry, toys, art, instruments, clothes, coffee, everything!  Each item has a tag saying the country it was made in and the artisan groups that make everything have already been paid for everything that's in the store.  They've been in this location for 20 years this year.  We didn't get anything but it was so fun to look at everything!

It was so cold and windy so after we walked back to their hotel we hung out in their room for a little bit before driving back.  We had so much fun!  I'm so glad we got to see them while they were here!
