Tucson and San Diego

Hello!

I'm finally writing about our trip to Tucson and San Diego last month!  Alex's dad turned 60 this summer and the whole fam went to San Diego for a few days to celebrate!  We had so much fun!!

There were eight of us total and we rode in a big van (that Alex's dad drove) to San Diego on the 4th of July!  The trip is only about six hours.

We stayed in a super cute Airbnb house!

It was in such a cute neighborhood with other fun houses, lots of places to walk, and it was so quiet.

After we figured out which rooms everyone was staying in, we went to dinner at Cafe Coyote.

It was really cool and the whole place was sort of indoor/outdoor.  The food was good!

We went to Seaport Village to walk around and then watch fireworks after that!  They do a few shows all at the same time all around that area and the fireworks were great!

We stayed in San Diego for four nights and almost every morning, at least a few of us would walk to a cute market called Grant's.

The first afternoon we went to the aquarium.  It was so nice outside and the aquarium is so cool!

We ate dinner at a place called Piacere Mio that was in walking-distance of the house.  It was some of the best pasta I've ever had!  We got dessert at a nearby ice cream shop called Daily Scoop on Juniper.  It was really cute.

The next day we went to Coronado Island to go to the beach!

It was really nice out but too cool to get into the water!

We had fun relaxing on the beach and walking around.

For lunch we went to this cool place called Tavern.

We went to dinner at a place near Seaport Village called Puesto and we all got really interesting and delish tacos!

We brought lots of games and cards so every night when we got home we played games!

The next day we went to the zoo, which was right by the house.  There were so many animals out and about!

We got to see several baby animals in different exhibits and they were so cute!!

We stopped at a cute cookie store called The Cravory on the way home.  Yum!

For dinner we walked from the house to a restaurant called Buona Forchetta and we had some really yummy Italian food! We sat on their nice patio area and the weather was perfect.

When we got back to Tucson, we got to spend a few days there before flying back to Baltimore.  We spent lots of time with the sweet pupsters, relaxed, went on walks at night, and had more fun!

We got to see my aunt Chris one afternoon, which was so fun!

We had such a blast spending time with Alex's family!  It was such a fun, relaxing trip!

2014 Washington Monument Lighting!

Hi!

Tonight was the 43rd Annual Holiday Monument Lighting at the Washington Monument, which is just a few blocks south of our apartment!  It is put on by the Downtown Partnership of Baltimore and it started as a small celebration and has grown into a huge event!  Here's a video about it I saw on Facebook yesterday.

When Alex got home from school, we walked down there to see what was happening!  It took place mostly in the West Mt. Vernon Square and there were tons of vendors lining both streets!

This hardly shows it, but there were food trucks and booths, people giving out candy canes, mittens, and glow sticks, lots of places with hot drinks, performances on the stage, and even a booth where you could take pictures with Santa! :)

The photos were by Pixelated Photo Booth, which I wrote about here the first time I went to CreativeMornings.

When we first got there it wasn't super crowded or cold but the later it got, the more people there were and the colder it was!  There have been protests around the city the past week or two and there were some protestors during the event and also marching up our street once we were home again.

We got pizza at one of the booths and finished it right before they lit the monument and set off fireworks!  It was a great show!  The monument looks so pretty with all of the lights on it :)

We walked home pretty much right after show ended because we were so chilly!  We're warm now and watching Peter Pan Live :)

Speaking of CreativeMornings, the next one is tomorrow morning!  I'm excited!  It sounds like it's going to be another great one.

Star-Spangled Spectacular

Hello!

From last Tuesday to next Tuesday is the Star-Spangled Spectacular in Baltimore!  It's a huge celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Star-Spangled Banner and it's a pretty big deal!  For the past few days the Blue Angels have been flying over doing air shows, Obama came to visit (he didn't stop by our apt...darn it!), there are lots of big ships in the Inner Harbor, and tonight there was a huge fireworks show!

Alex and I walked to one of his classmates' apartments and then everyone there walked toward the water to watch the fireworks.  We were in the perfect spot to watch!  There was a seriously amazing band playing jazzy covers of When the Saints Go Marching In, etc.  The fireworks were at least a half hour and they were so good!  Probably the best we've ever seen.  There were tons coming up from the ground near the water and then several tall buildings around us had them going off on the roof!

It was very nice and coolish while we walked there and back home.  On the way back we stopped to got delish frozen yogurt at Tutti Frutti which is right across the street!  Lucky us :)

Last night we met up with someone that used to live in Tucson and moved here a few months ago (we have a mutual friend) and we walked around and looked at the huge ships that are here for the celebration.  Then we walked to their apartment and met his wife.  It was fun to meet people yesterday and today!

Oh!  I opened up my Etsy shop!!  And got my first order!  Someone that was in improv with me at Tucson Improv Movement bought three things!  So exciting :)  I have twelve listings right now for hair ties and head bands and I'm going to keep adding more!

I had fun taking lots of pictures so you can really see what the hair ties look like.  Hopefully I'll get some more orders!

We're planning to wake up early to go to free yoga at the park again, so I'd better go to bed!
